Your Waste Types pick list stores every waste description, EWC code, and hazard detail you use regularly — set each one up once, and every Waste Transfer Note fills in a single click instead of re-entering codes and descriptions each time.

What Is the Waste Types Hub?

The Waste Types Hub stores saved waste descriptions and EWC codes, reused across WTNs. It replaces the old “Waste Types” tab on Pick Lists — same underlying data, reorganised into its own hub with a dedicated search, card view, and table view.

Tip: If you handle the same waste streams repeatedly — mixed C&D, ferrous scrap, timber — saving each one here once means nobody on your team has to remember EWC codes or re-type descriptions on every WTN.

How to Add a Waste Type

  1. Open Settings → Waste Types Hub — from the app, go to Settings, then Waste Types Hub.
  2. Click “Add Waste Type.”
  3. Enter Waste Details — Waste Name (required), EWC Code, Waste Description, Physical Form (solid, liquid, sludge, etc.), Contained Within, Number of Containers, Disposal/Recovery Code, and Means of Transport.
  4. Set whether it’s hazardous — see Hazardous Waste Details below.
  5. Set whether it contains POPs — see POPs Details below.
  6. Save.

Looking Up an EWC Code

Hazardous Waste Details

Switching Is Hazardous or Contains POPs to Yes reveals extra fields Setting Is Hazardous to Yes reveals Identification Method and Hazardous Components fields. Switch either toggle to Yes and its extra fields appear — leave it on No and they stay hidden.

Set “Is Hazardous?” to Yes and two more fields appear:

  • How were hazardous components identified? — record the method used to determine the waste is hazardous (e.g. supplier data, testing, knowledge of process).
  • Hazardous Components (optional) — list the specific chemical or biological substances present (for example Mercury, Lead, Cadmium) using Add Component. Add as many as apply.

POPs Details

Set “Contains POPs?” to Yes and a POPs Components section appears:

  • For each component, select the chemical, enter the amount, and its unit (mg/kg).
  • Use Add Component to record more than one POP substance.
  • Set Source of Components to record how they were identified (e.g. testing, supplier declaration, known composition).

Viewing and Managing Waste Types

  • Search — use the search bar on the Waste Types Hub to find a saved entry by name or EWC code.
  • Cards or Table view — switch between a card layout and a compact table using the toggle in the top right, whichever suits how many entries you have.
  • View a waste type — click any card to see its full details: description, EWC code, physical form, D/R code, and transport method.
  • Edit or delete — open a waste type and use Edit to update it, or the delete icon to remove it. Changes apply to future WTNs; documents already created aren’t affected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to fill in every field?

No — only Waste Name is required. The more you fill in (EWC code, physical form, hazard and POPs details), the more each WTN auto-populates when you pick this waste type, so it’s worth completing fully for waste streams you use often.

Can a waste type be both hazardous and contain POPs?

Yes. Set both “Is Hazardous?” and “Contains POPs?” to Yes and fill in both sections — plenty of waste streams, like some plasterboard and gypsum waste, are both.

Do Waste Type records sync across the whole account?

Yes. Waste Types are shared across your entire WasteBolt account — when one team member adds one, it’s immediately available to everyone else building a WTN.

What happened to the old Waste Types tab on Pick Lists?

It’s been replaced by the Waste Types Hub. The underlying data is the same — nothing is lost — just reorganised into its own dedicated page with search and two view modes.
