Bolt Upload reads a photograph or PDF of a paper waste document — a WTN, weighbridge ticket, delivery note, or invoice — and pre-fills a new digital WTN with the extracted details. You review and save. No manual typing.
What Bolt Upload Can Read
Bolt can extract data from any waste-related document that contains the relevant fields:

Tip: Bolt tries to match producers, carriers, and vehicles to your saved pick lists automatically. Always review the extracted data before saving — AI is fast but not infallible.
Bolt Credits
Each upload uses 1 Bolt credit. Your plan includes a monthly allowance (up to 50 credits a month per user), and the Bolt Upload page shows your current usage — for example “3/50 this month” — so you always know where you stand before uploading.

How to Use Bolt Upload
Step 1 — Open Bolt Upload
Go to Gate → Bolt Upload, or use the Bolt Upload Quick Action on the Gate dashboard.
Step 2 — Upload a file or take a photo
You have two options:
- Upload a file — drag and drop onto the upload area, or click to browse for a JPEG, PNG, WEBP, or PDF (up to 10 MB)
- Take a Photo — use your device’s camera directly instead of uploading a saved file
For best results, ensure the document is well-lit, flat, and all text is legible. Photos taken straight-on work better than angled shots.
Step 3 — Wait for Bolt to read the document
Bolt sends the document to its AI extraction engine. This usually takes 5–15 seconds. You will see a processing screen while it works. Do not close the page.
Step 4 — Review the extracted data
Bolt shows you everything it found, organised into sections:
- Producer — name, address, postcode, WML licence, SIC code
- Carrier — name, carrier licence number, address
- Consignee — receiving site name, address, licence number
- Waste — EWC code, waste name, description, physical form, container type, recovery code
- Transfer — vehicle registration, net weight, date, weighbridge docket, comments
Each extraction shows a confidence rating (high / medium / low). Low confidence on a field means Bolt was uncertain — check those fields carefully.
Step 5 — Click “Create WTN”
Tap Create WTN and WasteBolt opens the standard WTN creation form with all the extracted fields pre-filled. Review and edit anything before saving — the form works exactly like a normal WTN.
Tips for Best Results
- Good lighting is the single biggest factor. A well-lit document in a clear photo extracts much better than a dark or blurry one.
- If you have a PDF version of the document, uploading that directly gives better results than photographing a printout.
- Make sure your pick lists are up to date — Bolt matches against your saved producers, carriers, and vehicles to fill in licence numbers and addresses automatically.
Warning: Bolt is designed for non-hazardous WTNs. For hazardous waste consignment notes, create these manually in the Consignment Notes section.
Warning: Always review the extracted data before saving. Bolt reads what is on the document — if the paper record has errors, those errors will carry through.
Frequently Asked Questions
What file types does Bolt Upload accept?
JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and PDF files up to 10 MB. On mobile, you can also take a photo directly with your camera using the “Take a Photo” button.
What if the extraction misses some fields?
Any fields Bolt could not read will be left blank in the pre-filled WTN form. Fill them in manually before saving. If most of the document came through correctly, this is still faster than typing everything from scratch.
Can I use Bolt Upload for hazardous waste consignment notes?
Not currently. Bolt Upload pre-fills the non-hazardous WTN form. Consignment notes must be created manually using the Consignment Notes section — see How to Create a Digital Consignment Note for guidance.
Does Bolt Upload save the scanned document?
Bolt does not store the original image or PDF. Only the extracted data is used, to pre-fill the WTN form. The actual waste record is saved when you confirm the WTN in the form.
Can I try again if the extraction is wrong?
Yes. On the review screen, tap Try Again to start over with a new file or photo.
