Car Breaker Mode adds end-of-life vehicle (ELV) intake to your Gate Log — vehicle details, a hazmat de-pollution checklist, and photo evidence, captured alongside your usual waste transfer paperwork. It’s built for Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs) and car breakers.

New feature: Car Breaker Mode is actively being shaped around feedback from the ATFs using it. Certificate of Destruction issuance is a placeholder today — it’s coming in a future update.

Turning It On

Go to Settings → Modes and switch on Car Breaker Mode. It’s off by default and can only be turned on by a primary account admin.

Once on, every Gate → Log New Transfer form gains a Car Breaker — ELV Intake section automatically — there’s no separate app or extra login, and it applies account-wide rather than per load.

Logging a Vehicle at the Gate

The ELV Intake section captures:

  • Vehicle Details — VIN/Chassis No., Make, Model, Colour, Year of Manufacture, Engine Size, Fuel Type (Petrol, Diesel, Electric, Hybrid, Other), Country of Registration.
  • Intake Details — Vehicle Condition (Whole, Accident Damaged, Fire Damaged, Flood Damaged, Stripped/Part), Source (Private, Insurance, Trade, Police, Local Authority, Other), Mileage, Transaction Type (Purchased, Collected Free, Charged for Collection), Amount, and free-text Additional Notes.
  • Hazmat Checklist — five toggles: Fuel Drained, Oil Drained, Battery Disconnected, Airbags Noted, Coolant Drained.
  • Photos — four slots: VIN Plate, V5C / Docs, Vehicle, Damage. Each is compressed automatically on upload.

None of these fields are required to save — fill in what you have at the point of intake and complete the rest later from the record itself.

Tip: Saving the ELV details never blocks the Gate Log submission. If a photo upload fails, your WTN still saves normally — you can add the photo later from the record.

ELV Records: Reviewing and Managing Intakes

Find every logged vehicle under ELV Records — reached from the WTN Hub (the link only appears there once Car Breaker Mode is on) or directly. This page, and each record’s detail view, is admin-only — anyone who can log a load at the Gate can fill in the ELV Intake section, but reviewing, editing and exporting records afterwards is restricted to admins.

  • Search by registration, make, model, VIN or colour.
  • Each card shows the registration, a condition badge, make/model/year, fuel type, the log date, who added it, a hazmat-completion count (e.g. “3/5 hazmat”), and a WTN linked badge once it’s connected to a note.
  • A stats strip shows totals: how many records exist, how many have a linked WTN, and how many are fully de-hazed.

Editing an ELV Record

Open any record and click Edit to update Vehicle Identity, Intake Details, or toggle the Hazmat Checklist. Photos aren’t editable from here — update them from the original Gate Log form instead.

Admins can also delete a record, with a confirmation step first.

Linking to a WTN

A record isn’t linked to a WTN the moment you log it — that happens once the gate staging record is processed. Until then, the detail page shows: “No WTN linked yet — one will be linked automatically when the gate staging record is processed.” See Flagged For Review for how a logged load becomes a WTN.

Once linked, a banner on the record shows the WTN note number with a direct link to it.

Exporting a PDF

Click PDF on any record’s detail page to download a branded ELV record — useful for your own files or to hand over during an inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can turn Car Breaker Mode on?

Primary account admins only, from Settings → Modes. It’s off by default for every account.

Who can view ELV Records?

Only account admins — the ELV Records list and each record’s detail page are admin-only. Anyone with Gate Log access can still fill in the ELV Intake section when logging a load; reviewing and managing the records afterwards is an admin task.

Do I need to fill in every field to save a vehicle?

No — every field is optional. A bare intake is enough to create a record; add the rest later from the ELV Records detail page.

What happens if I don’t complete the hazmat checklist?

Nothing is blocked — the record just shows a “Hazmat incomplete” warning badge instead of “Fully de-hazed,” flagging it for follow-up.

Is Certificate of Destruction issuance available?

Not yet. There’s a placeholder section for it on each record, but CoD issuance itself is coming in a future update.

Do I need a weighbridge to use Car Breaker Mode?

No — it’s part of the standard Gate Log form and works whether or not your site has a weighbridge.
